Advent Schedule of Services and Activities

The year 2021 has been a time of growing uncertainty. With the development of vaccines to defend against COVID it seemed reasonable to hope that the virus would be contained and life, as we were accustomed to it, could soon resume. As we near the end of the year, numbers of cases are resurging instead of retreating. The cloud of uncertainty also takes the forms of increasing effects of climate change, the specter of economic inflation, and political turmoil and divisiveness. As we near the threshold of the year’s end, we find ourselves hungering and hoping for an advent of hope to dawn, just as the prophets did, who foretold the arrival of God’s chosen deliverer for humankind. And so, the theme for our observation of Advent will be An Advent for Uncertain Hearts.

Here is the calendar of events for this Advent and Christmas season:

November 27: Advent Workshop

November 28: 1st Sunday of Advent. The Rev. Liz Garrigan-Byerly will be a guest Preacher. Rev. Liz is the Associate Conference Minister for our Associations.

December 5: 2nd Sunday of Advent with Celebration of Holy Communion on the Facebook page.

December 12: 3rd Sunday of Advent

December 19: 4th Sunday of Advent. A Virtual Christmas Pageant (see Devon Murphy’s post in this Epistle for more information). Longest Night Service at 7 pm.

December 24: Christmas Eve service at 8 pm on Academy Hill

December 25: Merry Christmas!

December 26: A Christmas Carol-filled Service of Worship.

There will not be Worship Connection or Contemplative Prayer meetings during the week after Christmas.
